What an amazing way to ring in the new year ! The Hurley family‘s first fossil hunting trip ! The massive Meg’s were monster Sharks. The first showed up about 20 million years ago, (Carchadon megalodon) was what we think was the largest meat eating fish that ever lived ! Scientists can guess the sharks size by the size of the teeth and spine. These massive sharks were estimated to grow up to 45-60 feet long! and weigh up to 50 to 70 tons ! With 46 rows of teeth and a mouth up to seven feet wide they must have had one heck of a bite ! It is believed that the Megladons breeding ground was in our own South Carolina waters ! One of our favorite trips is A Day With A Native Trip ! really following the story Hilton Heads beautiful nature offers us. This trip we went through Hilton Heads backwater’s behind Daufuskie Island to Savannah River where we beach comb for giant SHARKS TEETH, AMAZING SHELLS AND ANCIENT FOSSIL’S. The Savannah River is the east coast’s largest shipping channel . So for the Dolphins its like a Kelly Slaters Wave pool ! they surf the bow wakes for hours upon hours playing and jumping ! I can’t wait to go again ! See you in the water soon!
